What if the world around you never had a place for you? What if the only way to be equal was to be something more? What if the very idea of being liberated came with a bloody price ? These were the questions that built the very foundation of Naxalite movement in India, in the late 1950's.
However, after 30 years, everything that defined the movement , was about to be changed, by an unassuming young man, who brought into it, rather unwillingly, the demons of his broken soul. He would go on to exert control over every aspect of societal reformation, at times taking up a route that would require incredible sacrifices and inconceivable means, and rise up to become the most essential cog in one of the largest parallel justice systems of India. The movement is captured through three men, who are faced with making difficult choices at different points of time, which in turn would decide the fate of millions. Ram, the protagonist is a man shackled by poverty and taught to bear the burden of social inequality until, he is shown a mirror to his true self and is given a path where armed with his unmatched intelligence and years of suppressed anger, he would transform into the sharpest and the most ruthless warrior of the movement. Lenin, a visionary, a leader and a mentor of the movement for whom, the force was family and their purpose to fight, his reason to live and, The Master, a man with many faces, who was respected for being a man of art by one world and revered, for being a master strategist by another.

RED ON LEAVES REVOLUTION Book 1 eBook Siddharth Naidu

Red on Leaves is Siddharth's first novel.
One thing is clear: he has a knack for storytelling. I started reading it with apprehension. After having read it though, I don't regret picking it up.
Red on Leaves is the story of a boy who came from nothing, but became instrumental in shaping the Naxalist movement in the southern states. It is the story of a man who gave up his life for something that he believed in. It is the story of the downtrodden, who are not free even years after the nation won its freedom. It is the story of people who fight to survive, but are branded terrorists by the state. At the heart of this story are two women, and the protagonist's relationship with them.

My favourite thing about this book is the characters. They are human, real people with hopes and dreams, with real flaws.
The story does have the effect of a conspiracy theory in places, yet the author manages to make it believable. The action sequences are well written, and the emotions are well expressed.

There does seem to be an utter disregard for rules of grammar and punctuation. Distracting as that may be, the story itself makes up for it.

Also, I should add, he's written long dialogues in Telugu and Bengali (I'm assuming those are the languages), followed by an English translation in brackets. A line or two here and there would have been fine, but this doesn't really add to the story except increase the number of pages and assure the Telugu or Bengali speaking readers that the author knows (or has researched) their language.

I like how the events have been phased out over the decades, and how the story ends where it started, even though it reaches there quite abruptly. The rise of the movement has been wonderfully described, but the decline has been rushed over.

There are some good twists and the story does get thrilling in places.
All in all, a good first novel. The only way to go is forward. And I'm excited to see what more the author has in his arsenal.

RED ON LEAVES REVOLUTION Book 1 eBook Siddharth Naidu Reviews

It is a must read for anyone who wants to have a true and unbiased view of the entire RED movement . Not just from a political perspective, this masterpiece covers all aspects of a life in naxalite areas. Good narration of events happened supported by nice quotes. Book is addictive and takes back reader to the past. Like it very much.
Its really a wonderful narration still i cant believe that this book is from a fresh ink with a thunder thoughts of Mr. Siddharth Naidu, when my friend suggested about this new book in store i really felt like same old routine concept might be but its really amazing once i started reading it i fall in love with the next page to come......thank u dear siddharth i m sure u r having a great future
Brilliantly written, could correlate and picture almost all the scenes as if there were my own memories! The twists and turns throughout the book came at just the right time to keep me hooked on and reading till the very last word on the last page! Enjoyed the book thoroughly and kept me entertained as I moved between the past and present, minute details throughout highlight the level of research that has gone in to tell us about the thinking, background and mind set of the characters. The one star i have not given is not because the book has a couple of moments where the author could have brought a little more ambition or character as the rest of the reading easily compensates for these handful moments but for the ever present scope for improvement in all. Mishu's poems at the end are the perfect way to end this story. Keep writing on comrade and looking forward to reading more from you soon !
